California Proposition 65 Chemical Warnings

On August 30, 2018 updated California Proposition 65 regulations will go into effect that require warnings for products that potentially expose users to chemicals that may cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm to people in California.  As a distributor and manufacturer of many products, we will have some items marked with these warnings.  The California proposition 65 chemical limits are much stricter and harder to quantify than previous requirements, so many vendors are choosing to apply warnings for any amount contained in their products.  For additional information please visit:

Mur-lok® and Other G.A. Murdock Manufactured Products

G.A. Murdock has performed a thorough review of our materials and manufacturing processes to determine if our manufactured products contain or expose users to chemicals currently listed on the proposition 65 list.  On those items that may contain a listed chemical, we have opted to apply a warning label to products, website product pages and sales documents for all customers, regardless of location.

Calculating the amount of user exposure is complex due to variances in how frequently a user may come into contact with the item, so we are not providing exact measurement levels of the chemicals in the products.  Please remember to consider that many Mur-lok® products have already been tested to NSF/ANSI 58 and 372 standards for safe drinking water. 

3rd Party Products

G.A. Murdock has worked with our vendors to determine which resale items require labeling and/or notification for Proposition 65 chemicals.  Products will be labeled and include notification information on the website and sales documents.  Additional information may be available from the manufacturers on request.

"Lead Free" Products

As of January 4, 2014, the US Federal Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires drinking water products sold or installed for use in public water systems, as well as plumbing in facilities, to meet a weighted average of not more than 0.25 percent lead.  Some products we sell meet this requirement and are marked "Lead Free".  In some cases, the products have also been certified to this level by NSF/ANSI Standard 342 or NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Annex G.  But the California limits are must stricter and harder to test, so many businesses are choosing to add the warning to avoid legal challenges.  We are relaying any warnings to all our customers in the event they need to sell or use these products in California. 

For Resellers, Distributors, Installers & Manufacturers

If you distribute products containing the listed chemicals in California, you are also required to provide these warnings where applicable.   For details on warning requirements, see:  www.P65Warnings.ca.gov
